A simple cake lends itself beautifully to a rustic/homemade/DIY wedding, you could even give it a go yourself! A huge trend has emerged for these rustic looking beauties and is totally adaptable to your colour and/or flower theme with your chosen flavouring inside.

Nice flavour combinations include the classic Victoria sponge with vanilla butter cream and Strawberry jam, lemon curd filling with fresh raspberries, or a forest fruits decorated version. Before my wedding I tried to create this myself just to see if it was something I could potentially do for the big day (was a little harder than I thought hence there being no pictures attached). The one thing I would say is make sure you have plenty of mixture to bake as the idea is you cut through the middle of the cake to fill with whatever you choose so you need a big cake to begin with! Alternatively you could always sandwich 2 cakes together.
